How PRP works

A small blood sample is taken and spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, which carry growth factors involved in tissue repair. This platelet-rich plasma is then injected or applied with microneedling to the treatment area. Because it comes from your own blood, it suits patients who want a natural approach.

PRP treatment options

Course and results

PRP is typically given as a course of sessions about a month apart, with improvement building gradually over the following months. Mild redness or swelling usually settles within a day or two. Dr. Bahar will advise whether PRP or an alternative such as PDRN or skin boosters best suits your goal.

Side effects, risks and suitability

Common and usually short-lived

Bruising where blood is drawn, and redness, swelling or tenderness in the treated area for a day or two.

Less common but important

Infection is uncommon. Because PRP is made from your own blood, allergic reactions to it are not expected, but results vary between people.

When it may not be suitable

Blood or platelet disorders, blood-thinning medicines, active skin or scalp infection, pregnancy, or cancer under active treatment. Some conditions need your doctor's advice first.

Your consultation covers your medical history, medicines and allergies, so Dr Bahar can advise whether a treatment is right for you.

Downtime and aftercare

Avoid make-up for the rest of the day, and saunas, intense heat and strenuous exercise for 24 hours. After scalp PRP, wait until the next day to wash or heat-style your hair, unless advised otherwise.
